Holy Old Man Bull
In addition to having been a carny, a cook, a migrant filed worker, a janitor, and a radio broadcast announcer and DJ, Holy Old Man Bull (also known as Marcus Arana) has worked for the San Francisco Human Rights Commission since 2000. He has lectured on gender identity discrimination since 1995, and has conducted workshops on sexual orientation issues since 1989. In addition Holy Old Man Bull has worked on key policy innovations - best practices for housing transgender residents in shelters; transgender health benefits for employees of San Francisco; model protocols for the treatment of transgender inmates in SF jails; and policies protecting transgender individuals from police abuse.
He has also authored two Commission reports: A Human Rights Investigation into the Medical "Normalization" of Intersex People and Discrimination By Omission: Issues of Concern for Native American People in San Francisco.
In his copious free time, Holy Old Man Bull has been performing publicly since 1973. He is a writer, composer, musician, artist, and sculptor, and is widely known for his heart-winning chili rellenos and buffalo stew.
