Charleston Chu & Thisway/Thatway

Charleston Chu is a fussy, Chinese American, drag king/queen and burlesque performer who has performed with The Fly Guys, The Transformers, Eye Candy, The Bromantics, Butch Tap, Freeplay Dance Crew, and Mangoes With Chili and in such venues as the International Drag King Extravaganza, Freak Show A Go Go, Brooklyn Pride, SF Pride, and Fresh Meat. In his performance, Charleston strives to bring together progressive political consciousness, a celebration of genderfucking, fierce technical dance choreography, and a love for all things sparkly and fabulous. The consummate candy-fag, Thisway/Thatway is an intermedia performance artist who enjoys the messy collision of glitter and theory. They launched into performance with the finest of Washington, DC's drag king/burlesque scene before wandering to the Bay Area. The child of Black-Panamanian immigrants, their work explores the perils and possibilities of interstitial spaces through voice, video, and movement. Thisway/Thatway currently debuted Laye(red), a show commissioned through the Queer Cultural Center. They have performed with the SF Fringe Festival, Climate Theater, Counterpulse, Femme Conference, Toronto Pride, Great Big, International Drag King Extravaganza, and National Queer Arts Festival.
