The San Francisco Trans March is SF’s largest transgender and gender non-conforming Pride event and the largest trans events in the entire world. It’s always the Friday of Pride weekend and thousands of people attend. This year the March will be June 24 in Dolores Park and there’s lots of big fun, huge celebration and awesome community building just waiting for you! This year the theme for the March is “Embracing Our Legacy: We Are Still Here.” in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Compton’s Cafeteria Riots, a pre-Stonewall uprising of trans and queer folks against police harassment in the Tenderloin.
The March is organized and run entirely by volunteers from the community. Our Board of Directors and a committed group of community members work hard to ensure that everything we do supports our mission and vision. The event itself is the result of hard work by many, many people doing things big and small.
Unfortunately, we need more than just volunteers to make the March happen. The event costs about $40,000 and that covers things like city permitting fees, stage rental, the sound system, ASL interpretation, the trolley for those with mobility issues, the youth/elder brunch and a whole mess of other expenses. We raise most of our money through grants and sponsorships, but we still need quite a bit to make this event happen.
